PROGRAM GOALS


Master Essential Repair Techniques

You will learn basic metal finishing using professional auto collision repair tools like hammers, dollies and dent pullers. Our program teaches both traditional methods and modern paintless dent removal techniques. These fundamental skills will help you restore damaged panels to their original shape, a core requirement for any successful auto body technician.


Develop Professional Finishing Skill

You will become skilled in properly applying auto body fillers, primers, and paints. Our program teaches proper mixing techniques and color matching to ensure seamless repairs. These finishing skills are highly valued in the auto collision repair industry and essential for delivering quality work that customers will appreciate.


Gain Advanced Welding Expertise

You will master various welding procedures critical for structural repairs, including mild steel, structural steel, silicone bronze, aluminum and spot welding. These specialized techniques are fundamental to modern auto collision repair technology and ensure vehicles maintain their structural integrity and safety after repairs.

SCC features cutting-edge technology and equipment that sets us apart. We're the only college in the country with six climate-controlled paint booths and you'll also train using two frame repair machines and a dedicated paint mix room. This advanced equipment ensures you're learning on the same technology you'll use in your career.

WHY SCC?

How much hands-on experience will I get in an auto collision repair program?


You'll spend 80% of your time in the lab and 20% in the classroom. Our program is committed to teaching through live projects, with students working on real customer vehicles (including their own) for 90% of their training time.

Will I earn any industry certifications?


Graduates of our program are I-CAR Platinum certified. This prestigious certification shows employers you've achieved and maintain high levels of role-relevant training. The certification makes you an attractive candidate and saves employers significant training time and money.

Is there opportunity to work in the field before graduating?


In your second year, you'll enjoy a four-day class schedule, giving you the opportunity to work in the industry for a full day each week. This valuable career experience helps you build connections and apply your skills in real work settings before graduation.

How does the program connect with the community?


Our program actively gives back through special projects. Recent examples include work on a motorcycle for the Wounded Warrior Project and participation in Recycled Rides. These projects allow you to use your skills to make a positive difference while gaining valuable experience.

 

CAREER OUTCOMES

Automotive Body Technician

Restore, refinish, and replace vehicle bodies and frames, windshields, and window glass. Repair body damage using specialized auto collision repair tools and techniques including welding, cutting and painting. You'll reshape metal parts, remove dents and replace sections that cannot be fixed.

Disassembly Technician

Systematically disassemble collision-damaged vehicles to assess structural damage, remove parts for repair or replacement and prepare vehicles for bodywork and painting. This is an essential role in the collision repair process and requires automotive knowledge and precision.

Refinish and Prep Technician

Specialize in preparing and painting vehicle surfaces. Mix paint to match vehicle colors, apply primers and topcoats, and ensure high-quality finishes. You'll work with computerized color-matching systems and advanced spray equipment in climate-controlled environments.
