Your Path to Long-Term Leadership

Our Long Term Care Administration program prepares you to manage operations in nursing homes and assisted living facilities. This online program was developed with industry administrators to meet education requirements for licensure as a nursing home administrator and exceeds requirements for assisted living administrator approval in Nebraska. You'll learn essential skills in healthcare leadership, risk management, regulatory compliance and facility operations. With flexible online courses and practicum opportunities, you'll gain the knowledge needed to plan, organize and supervise long-term care operations while ensuring compliance with state licensing requirements and industry standards.

PROGRAM GOALS


Comprehensive Facility Operations Management

You will be prepared to oversee complex facility operations including food and nutrition services, physical environment and safety protocols, marketing and public relations, and financial management.


Learn Regulatory Compliance and Standards

You will learn administration requirements, regulations and standards of practice for both assisted living and nursing home facilities including the legislative process, Medicare and Medicaid fundamentals and the Long Term Care Survey process to ensure full regulatory compliance.


Leadership and Ethical Decision-Making

You will develop essential leadership skills combined with knowledge of gerontology, ethics and death and dying concepts. This prepares you to make difficult decisions while maintaining compassionate care standards and leading diverse teams in sensitive situations.

 

Long Term Care Administration – Nursing Home

The Nursing Home focus prepares professionals to manage and oversee operations in nursing homes and skilled nursing facilities. You will graduate ready to take on leadership roles to ensure high quality care is delivered while maintaining state and federal standards. The certificate program is available for candidates who already have a college degree and only need the classes necessary to prepare them for the National Advisory Board (NAB) exam.

Long Term Care Administration – Assisted Living

The Assisted Living focus specifically prepares professionals to manage residential care facilities that provide housing, personal care services and limited health services to seniors who need some assistance but don't require the intensive medical care of nursing homes.

What hands-on experience will I get in a Long Term Care Administration program?


You'll gain valuable hands-on knowledge by working in facilities and experiencing real-life situations. Our program includes practical experiences through interviews with leadership teams, facility tours and other activities that give you a true understanding of the administrator role. This prepares you to lead others, manage multimillion-dollar budgets and facilities, and ensure the safety and well-being of residents.

Our program was developed with the assistance from long term care administrators to meet educational requirements for licensure as a nursing home administrator. In addition, our program exceeds the educational requirements for approval as an assisted living administrator in Nebraska.

 

CAREER OUTCOMES

Nursing Home Administrator

Serves as the chief executive responsible for planning, organizing, leading and supervising all operations of a nursing home facility licensed by Health and Human Services. Manages budgets, ensures regulatory compliance, oversees staff, and maintains quality resident care while meeting state and federal requirements.

Assisted Living Administrator

Manages assisted living communities that provide housing, personal care and limited health services to seniors. Oversees facility operations, resident services, staff training, budget management, and ensures compliance with state regulations while promoting residents' independence and quality of life.

Executive Director - Long Term Care

Leads the overall strategic direction and daily operations of long-term care facilities. Develops policies, manages financial performance, ensures quality care delivery, maintains regulatory compliance and represents the facility in community relations and business development activities.

State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement Institution

Southeast Community College is a State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement Institution (NC-SARA) institution. As such, SCC is unable to offer online or distance courses to students in the following areas at this time: American Samoa, Guam and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.

State Licensure or Certification Requirements

States where this program’s curriculum meets the requirements to take the NAB national examination for Nursing Home Administration – Nebraska, Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, and Tennessee.

The following states have no college degree requirements to take the NAB national examination for Nursing Home Administration – Colorado, Georgia, Missouri, Montana, Pennsylvania, and Utah.

Currently, no determination has been made for the states of Alaska, Arizona, California, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, Rhode Island, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, or Wyoming. Students residing in these states may not enroll in this program until a determination has been made by the College that the program meets the state’s requirements.

SCC has an articulation agreement with Youngstown State University where students who successfully complete this program may transfer and complete a Bachelor of Science in Applied Science in Long Term Care Administration.
