Winter Weather Preparedness

During weather conditions that require the College, the campuses, and the Learning Centers to close or cancel classes and scheduled activities, here's what you can expect.

Receive Alerts

SCC Regroup: This is the fastest and most reliable way to know when campus closes or classes are delayed due to weather, or other emergencies. When you sign up for Regroup, you’ll receive instant notification via text, phone call, and/or email the moment the decision is made which is often before the information reaches our website or local media. Students, faculty, and staff are highly encouraged to sign up for this free service.

Additional Notifications
  • SCC Website: An alert will be posted on southeast.edu.
  • Social Media: SCC’s Facebook page will also have weather-related announcements.
  • Local Media: We will notify local radio and TV stations about closures as soon as possible, ideally before 5 a.m. for daytime, classes, programs, or services and before 4 p.m. for evening classes, programs, or services.

Campus-Specific Closures

When the College closes, all campuses and Learning Centers are closed too. In situations where weather is specific to certain geographic areas, decisions for individual campuses (Beatrice, Lincoln, and Milford) and the Learning Centers (Falls City, Hebron, Nebraska City, Plattsmouth, Wahoo, and York) will be made by a local administrator and communicated locally.

If the College opts for a late start to give road and campus crews time to clear streets, sidewalks, and parking lots, classes will begin at 10 a.m. A late start means all employees and students are to report to whatever class or work assignment they would have at 10 a.m. that day. No additional adjustment to the day or schedule will be made for time missed prior to 10 a.m.

Athletic and other events may or may not be affected by campus closures. Before venturing to campus, verify the event is still happening as scheduled.

Dining Service Hours

In the event classes are cancelled or the College has a late start, the dining services on the Beatrice, Lincoln and Milford campuses will adjust their hours accordingly.

If classes are cancelled, the adjusted dining schedule is:

  • Brunch: 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
  • Dinner: 5:15 – 6:15 p.m.

If the campus opens at 10 a.m., the adjusted dining schedule is:

  • Breakfast: 9-10 a.m.
  • Lunch and dinner at regularly scheduled hours

If there is an early dismissal, standard dinner hours will apply.

Should I come to class on campus?

Even if you hear “College closed,” it does not necessarily mean classes are cancelled. Stay home. While classes will not be held in-person, you should consult syllabi for what instructors will communicate in the case of an “instructional continuity” day. The instructional continuity plans vary by class and could include an assignment to be completed, a recording to watch or a lecture via Zoom.

Faculty are to follow the continuity of education policy.

Certain staff positions, such as security, residence hall and snow-removal personnel, have been identified as “essential” to help on campus during weather closures. Those employees are made aware of the designation when hired. Unless told otherwise, you should assume you are not needed during weather emergencies and should stay home.

The Career Academy

In the situation where Lincoln Public Schools closes for weather, TCA classes are also cancelled. If SCC closes for weather, but LPS does not, TCA classes are still held in-person on the Lincoln campus.
