Spring semester begins at SCC
Students at all three Southeast Community College campuses started a new semester on Monday, Jan. 9, 2023. Enrollment on the first day of the semester is close to 8,000 students, and Reagan Gadeken is one of them. The first-year student is enrolled in the Computer Information Technology program on the Lincoln Campus.
“It’s been so positive, all of my instructors are so encouraging and invested in my education,” she said.
Gadeken was one of many students who took advantage of the Weeks of Welcome activities, which on this day included a free soda and popcorn and the chance to win a scholarship. Each campus will randomly draw two $250 scholarships for students who enter the drawings.
Jed Morton is helping with the Weeks of Welcome activities since he’s also a member of the student senate. He’s an Academic Transfer student and hopes to transfer to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and study secondary education after he graduates from SCC.
“It’s nice here because you get a high school-size feel on a college campus,” he said. “There’s lot of one-on-one with the teachers here. My smallest class had four students and my biggest had 20 students.”
The Beatrice, Lincoln and Milford campuses have two weeks of activities designed to familiarize students with the College and the resources each campus offers. In addition, students get free food, swag, and are able to take part in activities like sporting events, scavenger hunts and more.
