SCC Hosts ACBSP Region 5 Conference, Showcases Faculty Excellence

Southeast Community College served as host for the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs Region 5 conference Oct. 1-3, welcoming over 50 business education professionals from across the region. The three-day event featured presentations on timely topics including accounting, artificial intelligence, entrepreneurship, face-to-face selling in a digital world, and developing workplace skills.
The conference highlighted SCC's strong leadership presence within ACBSP. Janet Scott, business instructor, serves as chair elect for Region 5, while Dr. Kathy Eitzman, business dean, holds a position on the Associate Board of Commissioners. Adding to SCC's recognition, Business Instructor Krystal Gabel received the prestigious Region 5 Teaching Excellence Award, which qualifies her for consideration for the international teaching excellence honor. SCC Entrepreneurship Center Director Amy Jurgens’ presentation “From Incarceration to Innovation: Teaching Entrepreneurship” won the ACBSP Best of Regions Award. Jurgens will compete at the national competition to be named the top educator in the business world.
“It was an honor to welcome institutions from across the ACBSP Region 5 Midwestern area to Southeast Community College for this year’s fall conference,” Eitzman said. “I’m especially proud of our business faculty member, Janet Scott, who will serve as the incoming Chair of Region 5. Through the dedication of Janet, the Region 5 leadership team, and many SCC colleagues, we hosted a highly successful event with record attendance. Guests especially enjoyed dining at our student-run Course Restaurant and were impressed by the quality of our facilities. The conference truly reflected ACBSP’s commitment to excellence in business education and continuous improvement.”
