Buchanan Named Community Education Coordinator in Beatrice

Southeast Community College has hired Ginger Buchanan as Community Education Coordinator in Beatrice, bringing back a popular program that served the community for more than two decades. Buchanan will oversee the development and coordination of life and leisure classes offered in Beatrice and surrounding communities.

The college is reviving Continuing Education on its Beatrice Campus after listening to area residents who expressed a need for accessible, enriching educational experiences. The program had been discontinued following the retirement of longtime Assistant Director Kelly Morgan in 2020 and the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. Morgan was hired in 1999 to develop community education that went beyond the basic CPR and health classes offered prior to her arrival.

“I’m excited to work with local residents to develop creative, engaging classes that reflect the talents and interest of our community,” said Buchanan. “Whether it’s art, cooking, fitness or something completely new, I look forward to helping people learn and connect.”

With deep agricultural roots stretching back to her South Carolina upbringing, Buchanan brings extensive hands-on experience to her new role. She and her husband spent over two decades in Montana, where they managed ranching operations together and she served as a Food Service Director at a public school. They relocated to Nebraska over a year ago to raise, train and sell timed-event and ranch horses. Buchanan's diverse background includes tending greenhouses and gardens, and she maintains a passion for scratch-made meals and hands-on living.

Classes are scheduled to start this fall. For more information about SCC's Continuing Education programs in Gage County or to inquire about teaching a class, contact Buchanan at 402-228-8165 or gbuchanan@southeast.edu.
