The Rebecca "Becky" Bauer Memorial Scholarship

Rebecca A. "Becky" Bauer (1958–2025) was a lifelong Nebraskan whose nearly 50-year career in computer science and technology came full circle — from earning her computer programming degree at Southeast Community College in Milford in 1977, to returning SCC decades later. Along the way, she built a career that took her from the Nebraska Research Center to Anheuser-Busch, several colleges in the St. Louis area, and Metro Community College in Omaha. She watched the IT field evolve from punch cards to artificial intelligence. Known for the being a great friend, Becky was also a devoted Husker fan, an avid traveler, and someone who cherished time with family above all.

To honor her life and the difference she made at SCC, Kari and Tom Beckenhauer recently endowed the Becky Bauer Memorial Scholarship which will support students pursuing a degree in Computer Information Technology. Kari met Becky in the 1970s when they were both enrolled in the computer programming program. Early on, Becky earned a reputation as someone you could count on because she made things happen. Because of her knowledge of the college, her custom codes are still be used today.

“For many of us, Becky is still here with us,” said one of her colleagues.
