Ag Student of the Year

Southeast Community College’s Beatrice Campus has recognized Peyton Schaardt as the “Ag Student of the Year” for the 2022-2023 academic year. Schaardt was previously “Ag Student of the Month” last April. To be selected, Ag instructors look at a number of factors including grades, attitude and progress in the program.

A native of Table Rock, Schaardt chose SCC for the hands-on experience, the small-town community and the teachers who have background in the ag industry. She is studying Agricultural Business. After graduation in December, she hopes to find a job within the industry while growing her cattle herd back home.

“I’ve grown up in the Ag industry, and it’s all I’ve ever wanted to be a part of,” she said. “We keep the world moving with agriculture.”

Her favorite classes at SCC were Livestock Management and Farm & Ranch. Studying animal reproduction and genetics were some of her favorite memories in the classroom.

“She is always engaged in class and is willing to help outside the classroom as well,” said ag instructor Alan Rumbaugh. “She has a good attitude and is a pleasure to be around.”

Schaardt received a special certificate, as well as a gift card to the Campus Book Store and her picture is displayed in Ford Hall with past recipients.
