SCC Reminds Property Owners to Claim Tax Credit

Southeast Community College officials are reminding taxpayers in SCC’s 15-county service area to claim refundable credits for community college and school district property taxes paid when they file their income taxes.

When LB243, which established the Community College Future Fund, passed in the Nebraska Legislature in 2023, the bill included a phased-in tax credit for property taxpayers.

For 2023 income tax returns, filed in 2024, taxpayers can receive a tax credit estimated to be 50% of property taxes they paid to community colleges and 30% for school districts in 2023.

For next year’s (2024) returns, filed in 2025, taxpayers can receive a tax credit estimated to be 100% of property taxes they paid to community colleges in 2024.

Taxpayers can access the Nebraska Property Tax Credits website for more information. A link to the Nebraska Property Tax Look-up Tool, which will show the allowable community college total tax rate and the allowable Nebraska school district total tax rate, is on the site.
