Brockman Named January Agriculture/Horticulture Student of the Month

Wyatt Brockman was recognized as the January Ag/Horticulture Student of the Month for Southeast Community College’s Beatrice Campus. A Lawrence native, he is enrolled in the Agriculture Management and Production program and is on track to graduate in May 2024.

“Agriculture is something I’ve always had a passion for,” Brockman said. “I plan to move back home after I graduate in May and work for a farmer while working alongside my dad to start my own operation.”

Ag instructors look at a number of factors when choosing the student of the month, including grades, attitude and progress in the program.

“Wyatt Brockman is in class every day, is a very good student and is willing to stay after to assist in getting harvest completed,” said Instructor Mark Duffek.

Brockman’s favorite part about the ag programs at SCC is the hands-on learning. He is also a fan of earning dual credits in high school.

“My advice to high school students wanting to attend college is to take dual-credit classes,” he explained. “Try to get your gen-eds done while you are in high school.”

SCC Ag Students of the Month receive a special certificate, bookstore gift card and the opportunity to be the Ag Student of the Year.
